The nursing profession is an honorable and respectable profession. In Pakistan, nurses are working with heart and soul in improving healthcare practices, as well as taking the initiative for better outcomes by identifying the gaps in practices and trying to improve those practices. Nurse as a researcher has a broad view in their minds in terms of overall health and it can be turning the eye toward the new and demanding role of nurses as a researcher. Nursing research is the key part that guides nurses to take initiatives in refining health practices all over the country.
In recent years, the nursing profession has gained advancement in Pakistan from a Master of Science in Nursing (MScN) towards a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing (PhD in nursing), where nurses researcher can utilize the theory, practice, research altogether and play a great vital role in improving healthcare practices and guiding the path towards continuity of research. The nurse can conduct, researches in a variety of setting for the betterment of health which includes hospitals, community health centers, clinics, and universities. (Lal, 2021). They can research in a wide range of areas, utilizing their knowledge, finding the gaps, and planning the study design example: following the steps of research studies, collecting data, analyzing the data, planning methodologies, doing practices, and drawing conclusions from evidence-based practices. Moreover, nurses as researchers can implement new practices by going beyond taking a more holistic view and utilizing their knowledge in a health setting.
Pakistan is under developing country and for development in the health sector, research is needed for better outcomes. Hence we are in a new era where technology is bringing new changes every day and new innovations making life more comfortable, which indirectly affects health outcomes. Hence, research can play a vital role in identifying modifications that are needed to improve health. Additionally, nurses bring all this knowledge from their experiences, reasoning, role modeling, intuitions, and trial and error (Grove et al., 2018).
In a nutshell, nurse researchers are needed for advancing their careers, education, practices, and overall changes. Where nurses’ researchers shape the future of the nursing profession from basic to advance. Nursing researches significantly impact a lot and bring major changes in health at the national level (Ioannidis, 2018). This impact put light on changing and bringing up nursing research as a research culture and preparing research infrastructure and workforce for nursing research. (Grove et al., 2018). The nursing research field must grow to keep the beauty of this ever-green profession.
